My Safe Haven seeks to advocate for individuals experiencing a range of diagnoses and/or disabilities. If there is a condition affecting your quality of life in any way, it is our goal to ensure you have access to all applicable resources. This includes connecting clients to resources and accommodations for their home, educational or professional endeavors.
My Safe Haven also seeks to empower you by helping you to understand your lawful rights under any applicable legislation including but not limited to the American with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Fair Housing Act (FHA), and the Rehabilitation Act. Our goal is to help you live a full life despite your condition or disability.
Through our vast legal connections in both federal and state governments and agencies, we help to ensure that all applicable laws are complied with in order to help ensure your haven and health retains a healthy sense both mentally and physically. Kristin Whack holds a M.A. in Human Services and a Master of Ed in Clinical Rehabilation Counseling and is a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor. She is committed to the good health and welfare of all her clients.
Born and raised in Hampton Roads, VA, Ms. Whack also services as director for the organization Kultivating Youth and was just recently accepted a position as a "Reasonable Accommodation Specialist" under contract of the Federal Government.
What conditions are covered under the disability Act?
Physical or mental impairment can include: physical impairments, such as mobility difficulties. sensory impairments such as those affecting hearing or sight. learning difficulties, including people with specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia and dyspraxia.
What is considered a violation of ADA?
It is a violation of the ADA to fail to provide reasonable accommodation to the known physical or mental limitations of a qualified individual with a disability, unless to do so would impose an undue hardship on the operation of a business.
What is the American Disability Act in housing?
The Fair Housing Act makes it unlawful to refuse to make reasonable accommodations to rules, policies, practices, or services when such accommodations may be necessary to afford persons with disabilities an equal opportunity to use and enjoy a dwelling and public and common use areas.
